1. German chocolates and marzipan
Delicious German chocolate is always a popular gift, but some lovely marzipan is a slightly more unusual idea. Niederegger is the top brand which is made not far from the city. The marzipan is made with 100% almonds and no added sugar and is beautifully presented in a stylish gift box with a heart motif. B Sweet in the Ottenson District is a chocolate shop that is worth discovering as it stocks chocolates, macaroons, and pralines from all over the world and you can choose whichever combination you want!
2. A few bottles of Hamburg beer
Providing you are not traveling with flight baggage only, a few bottles of the city’s excellent craft beer makes a great souvenir. The most popular microbrewery is Ratsherrn which makes six really good beers that suit all tastes and often makes some seasonal specials too. If room allows, Ratsherrn does a really good four-pack of beer containing a bottle each of larger, wheat beer, red beer, and pale ale.
3. A classic ship in a bottle
Hamburg has always been an important port and is the second busiest container port in Europe. Not surprisingly, many of the souvenirs remind everyone of its great seafaring tradition. 4. Or an ornament of a lighthouse
There is something rather special about lighthouses and they often evoke thoughts of the sea. 6. A beautiful Hummel figurine
These lovely porcelain figurines are based on the drawings by a German nun whose name was ‘Hummel’ and these have been produced since 1935. there is quite a collection, but the most famous one is of a water carrier dressed in a chequerboard colored suit with a top hat.
7. A beautifully tailored hat
Walther Eisenberg der Műtzenmacher is a well-known name in Hamburg as this company is the oldest hat makers and has been in business since 1892. There are 18 classic styles in the range and all of them are made by hand using sewing machines that date from the 1920s!
8. A packet of really excellent coffee
Elbgold is known by coffee connoisseurs as being one of the best brands of coffee beans that you can buy, so what better treat to yourself than some really great coffee!
9. A traditional German Stein
If you enjoy a good beer, then there is nothing better to have as a souvenir than a classic glass beer stein- mass- having said that, they can be weighty, so you may find it easier to transport a fun new ‘Hamburg’ coffee mug home as a good reminder of the city when you enjoy your morning cuppa!
10. A road sign!
Not from a signboard in the street, but from one of the many tourist shops selling decorative road signs that are authentically sized and colored and guarantee to bring a smile to your face each time you see them!
